John J. Calamita, 74, of Sunny Hills, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012, at a local hospital. He was born in Erie, PA, and had lived in Bay and Washington Counties for the last 20 years, moving here from Texas. John retired as MSGT after 22 years in the US Air Force. He was a parishioner at St. Teresa Catholic Church, and was the Faithful Navigator, District Warden, and Council Trustee of KOC # 3035, Chipley, FL.

Bishop Estevez, along with the Reverend James Boddie of St Catherine of Siena and Deacon Larry Peterson presided at the Bishop’s Scout Recognition Ceremony in which over 100 Boy and Girl Scouts received religious medals to include the Light of Christ, Family of God, Parvuli Dei, I Live My Faith, Ad Altare Dei, Mary the First Disciple, and Pope Pius XI awards.

The Knights of Columbus stands with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in opposition to the recent decision by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to force Catholic employers including hospitals, universities, and charities to provide health insurance that covers contraception and sterilization.

The 24 Annual Florida East Coast Run for Life began February 18, 2012 at 8AM mass for the runners at Sacred Heart Church, Homestead. The first leg of their trek ended with 5PM mass at St. Rose of Lima Church, Miami.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced last week that almost all employers, including Catholic employers, will be forced to offer their employees’ health coverage that includes sterilization, abortion-inducing drugs, and contraception. Almost all health insurers will be forced to include those “services” in the health policies they write. And almost all individuals will be forced to buy that coverage as a part of their policies.

When the students of San Juan Del Rio School decided to participate in the first annual Patriotic Essay and Poster Contest little did they know what an adventure it would be. The contest sponsored by the 4th Degree Sir Knights of Knights of Columbus Ave Maria Assembly 3008 at San Juan Del Rio Catholic Church was begun to help commemorate Veterans’ Day during the annual fall festival.
