Options for Women Pregnancy Help Clinic has operated for approximately 30 years in Lakeland. In January 2018, Options opened a branch clinic in Bartow with wonderful community support. Also in 2018 the Options board became aware that the property on South Florida Avenue adjacent to the abortion center in Lakeland was up for sale. After several months of meeting with friends of Options for Women, some initial donations have been received. The acquisition cost is $500,000, of which about $350,000 has been raised.

There have been times in our country’s past when uninformed or prejudiced people questioned whether Catholics could be good citizens or honest public servants. That’s why Father McGivney chose the name “Columbus” for our Order — because the discoverer was the Catholic figure from American history most admired and accepted at the time. In fact, from our founding in 1882, until the election of Brother Knight John F. Kennedy in 1960, many still held that Catholics were unfit for public office. Throughout that time, the Knights of Columbus worked to counter such prejudice.

Our host Council 8791 Prince of Peace and Assembly Bishop Thomas J. Grady 2901 have taken the lead in providing a Knights Memorial Mass to include all councils and assemblies within our regions District 17-18-20. The response in the last 13 Years has continued to grow and has been very rewarding and successful.

The incorrupt heart of France’s St. John Vianney will be available for veneration beginning at a 12:10 p.m. Mass on Monday at the bascilica, 19 N Palafox St., and will continue throughout the day before concluding at 8 p.m. following Mass at 7. Confessions will be heard from 1 to 7 p.m.

Veterans from the Local VA Nursing home were transported to the event and a good time was had by all.
