There have been times in our country’s past when uninformed or prejudiced people questioned whether Catholics could be good citizens or honest public servants. That’s why Father McGivney chose the name “Columbus” for our Order — because the discoverer was the Catholic figure from American history most admired and accepted at the time. In fact, from our founding in 1882, until the election of Brother Knight John F. Kennedy in 1960, many still held that Catholics were unfit for public office. Throughout that time, the Knights of Columbus worked to counter such prejudice.

As some of you may know; Membership Director Ron Kosey has been battling a bad back for some time now. To assist Brother Ron in his duties I have appointed Brother John O’Toole as Membership Director for the remaining fraternal year. Brother Ron will stay on as Vice Membership Director during this time. This change takes effect immediately. Please keep Brother Ron in your prayers as he goes through back surgery.

After Hurricane Michael rammed through Panama City, Fla., on October 10th, Fr. Anthony Nguyen examined his severely damaged church and his totally destroyed rectory. Major portions of the church roof were gone, and there was water everywhere. Saints Peter & Paul had become a focal point for the Vietnamese community of Panama City. There was no question; they would rebuild.

Our host Council 8791 Prince of Peace and Assembly Bishop Thomas J. Grady 2901 have taken the lead in providing a Knights Memorial Mass to include all councils and assemblies within our regions District 17-18-20. The response in the last 13 Years has continued to grow and has been very rewarding and successful.

The incorrupt heart of France’s St. John Vianney will be available for veneration beginning at a 12:10 p.m. Mass on Monday at the bascilica, 19 N Palafox St., and will continue throughout the day before concluding at 8 p.m. following Mass at 7. Confessions will be heard from 1 to 7 p.m.
