Vocations Dinner Council 11281

The St. John Knights of Columbus Council held their Annual “Vocations Dinner Fundraiser” on Thursday May 30th. Funds raised are targeted to the Council’s Vocation Fund which supports Seminarians and Religious in Formation every year. This year’s Dinner Honored Monsignor Robert J. Coll on his 60th Anniversary as a Priest. Grand Knight Joe Hemrick introduced a host of speakers to recall the amazing life of Msgr. Coll. Speakers included Fr. Tom Zalewski, Fr. Tom Glackin, and a heartfelt recollection of by one of the Three Ethiopian Children Msgr. Coll raised, Abiy Belege. Abiy recollected the love and caring Msgr. provided for him as a child and adult. Abiy, and his family, were joined by dozens of family and friends to Monsignor who attended. Many traveled from as far away as Bethlehem Pennsylvania where Msgr. served in the Diocese of Allentown A beautiful video of the Life of Monsignor Coll showed the many accomplishments of Msgr. Coll and his friendships with St. Theresa of Calcutta and numerous other famous people around the world. The Knights presented Msgr. with a Plaque and a Gift for all he has done and as a special Priest to the St. John Parish Community.
The evening also showcased the Ten Seminarians from the Diocese of Venice, which St. John Knights of Columbus is sponsoring for this Columbian Year. Five of those Seminarians were in attendance and were recognized as they prepare for the Priesthood. Grand Knight Hemrick concluded the ceremonies noting to the Seminarians that, as they look around the room, there were eight great Priests present who serve as an incredible example to them. The example of Msgr. Coll not only serves as an example to the Seminarians, but, also to every human being on how one person can make a difference in so many lives and what can be done to help those in our world poor and in need. An example check was presented to the Seminarians in the amount of $11,000.00, which represents what the Vocations Fund has allocated for the ten Sponsored Seminarians. It was noted that this fund has provided over $200,000 since its inception.
The evening concluded with a silent auction and raffles which raised $9,000 to assist the Vocations Fund. St. John Council KofC Thanks all the Parishioners and those who contributed (see list below) to make this a successful fundraiser.
