The Knights of Columbus #10377 and St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church started a homeless outreach ministry in 2015. The Knights who are involved named the ministry The Sword and Spoon. We know that most of our Catholic churches have a Knights council, a SVDP Vincentian, Church prayer groups, and other charity organizations nearby. We would like to see them utilize each other to assist in our common principles of charity and taking care of those less fortunate. It is more than just putting food on the table.
Remember our McGivney prayer. To help widows, orphans, the needy, and the outcasts. Our homeless problem is in every city and county across America. We cannot change the world at once but we as Knights can change the neighborhood your council is in. We chose a day to serve that there are no resources for the homeless. Here are some of the ways we do it.
We would like to thank the following for supporting those in need within our community. Together we serve a full hot nutritious meal at two locations in Hudson and Port Richey every Sunday, For our homeless Brother’s and Sister’s and those at risk. In recognition and sincere gratitude to the ones who help make it happen every week:
-K-Mart (for allowing us to serve at your store) -St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store (for allowing us to serve at your store)
-Aripeka Elks Bingo Charities (for your generous donations all year) -Star Academy (for your support and food donations)
-The Men of St. Michael (for your support and donations all year)
-St. Michael Prayer Group (for your support and donations)
-St. Vincent de Paul (St. James & St. Michael) (for your support and donations) -Catholic Relief Services (equipment grant)
-Sunrise Propane (propane supply)
-ALL the St. Michael Parishioners and Friends (for your prayers, donations and support)
For the year of 2016 together we served 7,121 homeless and at risk Brother’s and Sister’s in Pasco County. It took 2,953 working man hours and lots of your support, praying, and love to accomplish. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We look forward to another great and unpredictable year as we move along with and strive to be like Jesus.
