Christmas In July

The latest Baby Shower at the Pregnancy Care Center of Plant City, Fla. was so successful it even surprised Knights of Columbus organizers at St. Clement Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 24.
“We'd count boxes and bags but some have two to five pieces inside,” said gift drive organizer Andrew Bryant with KoC Council 8095. When the center opened the packages, the contents “doubled our guesstimate. Incredible! We just appreciate the support of the parish-wide effort,” Bryant said.
“This has been such a blessing each year,” Center Executive Director Sandi Nelson said in a Thank You note regarding the third annual Baby Shower.
When her staff opened the wrapped gifts, they found that most packages contained multiple items. “We counted about 647 individual baby items!”
“By participating in our Earn While You Learn parenting education program, our clients will be able to 'shop' in our boutique for these needed items for their babies,” Ms. Nelson said.
Expecting parents attend free one-on-on parenting classes and are given “Baby Bucks” for strollers, play pens, clothes, diapers and other items.
The Baby Shower is part of St. Clement's Christmas in July celebration. During that time a Christmas tree in the church lobby is festooned with tags letting parishioners know what items are needed for Pregnancy Center clients.
