A three-year Knights of Columbus initiative to expand services and provide ultrasound tests at the Central Broward Pregnancy Help Center was blessed April 12 by Archbishop Thomas Wenski.
Council 3080 was designated the lead promoter in qualifying the center for a matching donation from the Supreme Council in 2018, accomplishing the purchase of the ultrasound machine and remodeling of the office space at 525 NE 13 Street, Fort Lauderdale.
John A. Hill Council 4955 partnered in the effort in donating $10,000 to the Central Broward office and $2,000 to the North Broward Center in Margate. Grand Knight Kyle Riebel also presented another $5,000 for Central Broward and $2,000 to North Broward April 12.
Florida State Council Ultrasound leads the way in the entire Order, donating 88 ultrasounds, with five more pending with the Supreme Board of Directors.
In January, the Knights of Columbus donated its 1,000th ultrasound machine to a Virginia clinic, fulfilling a 10-year initiative to give millions of babies a chance at life through pregnancy centers around the world.
The Ultrasound Initiative is a staple of the Faith In Action program developed by the Knights of Columbus. Over $49 million in machines have been donated to pro-life pregnancy centers in all 50 states and Puerto Rico, as well as Brazil, Canada, Jamaica, Peru and Africa.
