Responding to a member family’s request, John A. Hill Council 4955 of Pompano Beach called on Knights and their fellow parishioners in six area Broward County churches to invoke the intercession of Venerable Servant of God Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen for a miracle.
Longtime council member Edwin Cunningham was critically injured in a traffic accident Dec. 23, 2017, and fell into a coma. His family, recalling a treasured photo of a young Edwin serving Mass for Sheen in 1975, turned their prayers to the late archbishop, whose cause for sainthood is promoted by his home diocese of Peoria, IL.
The council was introduced to the archbishop’s cause last year when his grand-nephew moved to the area.
Council members voted to present portraits of the archbishop to area churches with intercessory prayer cards enlisting parishioners in the cause. Sheen pioneered radio evangelization and hosted an Emmy Award-winning television show in the 1950s. The council also authorized a $100 donation to the Archbishop Fulton John Sheen Foundation in Peoria.
